Two Brothers Arrested for Defrauding Woman of Rs 23.85 Lakh in Immigration Scam

City Police on Tuesday arrested two brothers, including one who posed as an immigration officer, for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs23.85 lakh. The accused had contacted the victim through the matrimonial website Jeevansathi.com, where they pretended to be connected to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The arrested men were identified as Vicky Nahar (40) and Sunny Nahar (33), both residents of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. They were apprehended within 48 hours of the FIR being filed. According to DCP (West) Amit Kumar, the police acted swiftly and tracked down the accused in Dehradun.

The victim’s complaint, filed on March 7, details how Sunny Nahar introduced himself as a Grade A immigration officer in the MEA. He managed to build trust by sending a fake job ID card via WhatsApp, arranging video calls displaying the MEA logo, and making false promises of marriage. To further gain her confidence, Sunny orchestrated conversations with supposed family members, convincing the woman to send large sums of money.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police have warned people to stay cautious when dealing with online matrimonial platforms.
