Amid heightened security along the India-Bangladesh border, authorities in Tripura have arrested two Bangladeshi nationals attempting to infiltrate the state. On Thursday, Amit Dhar (29) from Chittagong and Mili Akhtar (19) from Dhaka were detained by a joint team of GRP, RPF, and BSF at Agartala Railway Station. The pair were attempting to board a long-distance train to Kolkata.
The arrests come as a part of a continued crackdown on illegal cross-border movements, particularly following unrest in Bangladesh, which has led to an influx of nationals, including Rohingyas, into northeastern states like Tripura and Assam. Security forces have intercepted numerous individuals, including trafficked women, trying to travel to larger cities for employment opportunities.
The two arrested suspects were produced before a local court and have been sent to judicial custody. GRP officials are currently investigating their motives for entering India illegally, with further interrogation underway. Authorities remain vigilant against trafficking and illegal immigration, working to prevent such infiltrations into the country.
