In a significant operation, the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Arbaz Khan and Prabhu Ram on Friday for illegally possessing 10,000 tablets of banned drugs, namely alprazolam and tramadol, in Jaipur. The tablets, with an estimated market value of around Rs40 lakh, were seized during a raid conducted at a house in the Tonk Phatak area of Jaipur.
Acting on a tip-off, the DRI team swiftly executed the raid, but the accused failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing such a large quantity of the drugs, leading to their arrest on Saturday. These drugs are commonly abused by addicts both within India and internationally.
Further interrogation revealed that the arrested duo was involved in a large-scale drug trafficking operation. Arbaz Khan and Prabhu Ram had been sourcing these controlled substances from New Delhi and distributing them across India via courier services. The tablets, worth ₹400 to ₹500 each, were being sold to individuals in various locations.
Additionally, the investigation uncovered that the accused were also smuggling the drugs to European countries, expanding their illegal operations beyond Indian borders.
The DRI’s successful operation has dealt a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, with the seizure of such a large quantity of banned drugs. The arrested individuals were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody as further investigations continue. The DRI remains committed to curbing the growing menace of substance abuse and illegal trafficking in the country.
