Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir arrested two suspected drug peddlers in Udhampur district, recovering nearly 40 grams of heroin from their possession. Among those detained was Vikrant Sharma, a nursing orderly at the Government Medical College in Udhampur.
The arrests were made on Monday, with the suspects, Vikrant Sharma from Chabutra Bazar and Arjun Dubey from Paba Gali, being intercepted by a police team while traveling towards Udhampur from Jammu on a motorcycle. The interception took place at Rehambal, a key area along the busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, demonstrating the authorities’ vigilance on major routes.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway to uncover the broader drug peddling network in the region. Authorities are working to dismantle the narcotics operations and prevent the spread of illegal substances in Jammu and Kashmir.
This operation reflects the ongoing efforts by Jammu and Kashmir police to combat the growing drug trade and ensure public safety.
