Two Arrested in Rs 1.85 Crore Theft from Real Estate Office in Girgaon

The VP Road Police have arrested Vijay Rajput, 19, and Dhanaji Rajput, 20, in connection with the theft of Rs 1.85 crore from a real estate broker and courier office in Bhoiwada, Girgaon. The police have so far recovered Rs 1.55 crore from the suspects, and are still searching for a third suspect, Hitesh Rajput, 20, who is believed to have played a role in the theft and is currently absconding.

The victim, Hitesh Khatri, who operates a courier and real estate business from his office in Bhoiwada, had stored Rs 1.85 crore in a cupboard on February 21, 2025. The following morning, Naresh Rajput, an employee, discovered that the cash was missing. A case of theft was reported, and an investigation was launched.

On February 23, police intercepted Dhanaji Rajput at Mumbai Central Railway Station with a bag containing Rs 1.5 crore. As they delved into the investigation, they learned that Dhanaji and Vijay Rajput had planned to flee to their home state of Gujarat. Although Dhanaji was apprehended, Vijay managed to escape, prompting further search efforts.

Subsequent inquiries led the police to Dhanaji’s house, where they discovered an additional Rs 55 lakh hidden. Dhanaji told his father that the money belonged to his employer, Hitesh Khatri. With this new information, the police were able to recover the stolen amount from Gujarat, following a trail of evidence provided by Dhanaji during his interrogation.

The investigation then led to Vijay Rajput’s arrest, as he was found to have provided inside information and aided in the theft. Both Vijay Rajput and Dhanaji Rajput remain in police custody, while efforts continue to track down Hitesh Rajput and recover the remaining stolen funds.

The police are also intensifying their investigation to ensure that all suspects are brought to justice and that the rest of the stolen amount is fully recovered.
