Two individuals were arrested in East El Paso on Saturday after authorities discovered methamphetamine and possibly fentanyl in their vehicle. Jodi Marie Schimek, 38, and Luis Alberto Cortes, 34, face charges of possession of a controlled substance after officers made the discovery.
The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) reported that the drugs were found during a search of the car at a Valero gas station parking lot at 11101 Gateway West. The discovery came after police noticed what appeared to be a baggie of narcotics. A K-9 unit assisted officers in locating the drugs.
Though EPPD suspects the pills found in the car may be fentanyl, they have sent them to a lab for confirmation. If the pills test positive for fentanyl, both suspects could face additional charges.
Schimek was released on a $5,000 bond Sunday, while Cortes remains in jail with a $1,500 bond.
