The Tapi police in Gujarat arrested two men on Wednesday night in connection with a daring ATM robbery at two State Bank of India (SBI) locations in Vyara. The robbery gang allegedly made away with Rs 44 lakh, but police have so far recovered Rs 4.64 lakh from the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prashant Pawar (25), a resident of Dhule in Maharashtra, and Lalsingh Dohri (27), a native of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The pair were involved in the break-in and theft of the money from the ATMs.
The police investigation revealed that a total of five individuals were involved in the robbery. While Pawar and Dohri were arrested, three more suspects remain at large: Wasim Akram and Inam Shahid from Haryana, and Sajid Khan from Mathura.
The police acted swiftly after receiving reports of the break-ins, and an investigation led them to the arrested duo. Despite the recovery of a portion of the stolen cash, a significant amount is still unaccounted for. Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining suspects, and efforts are underway to trace the gang’s whereabouts.
The police have registered a case under various sections, including theft and breaking into a locked property. As the investigation progresses, more details about the robbery gang’s operations are expected to emerge.
