MARSHALL CO., Ala. — Two individuals were arrested in Marshall County on Monday after a short pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. The incident began Thursday when deputies responded to a report of a stolen black Honda Accord in the New Hope area. The vehicle was described with a switched tag, and the suspect was identified as Kelly D. Wooten, who had multiple outstanding warrants.
On Monday, investigators learned Wooten was in the Grant area with a man, later identified as 42-year-old Charles Justin Smith, who was wanted for a felony probation violation related to a robbery conviction in Madison County. Authorities were also informed the individuals were possibly armed.
Upon locating the vehicle on Old Union Rd. in Grant, a short pursuit ensued after the vehicle was seen leaving the property. The pursuit ended just a mile away at Campbell Rd./Cathedral Caverns Hwy. A firearm was reported thrown from the vehicle during the chase and was later recovered on Campbell Road.
Wooten was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, including Theft of Property – 1st Degree, Failure to Appear for Probation Violation, and Assault – 1st Degree. She is currently being held without bond in the Marshall County Jail.
Smith was charged with Destruction of Property by Prisoner and will remain in jail without bond. He is expected to be extradited to Madison County once released. Further charges are anticipated in the ongoing investigation.
