OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — David Gutierrez and Diana Delgado, both from California, were arrested after deputies with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office discovered 47.5 pounds of uncut cocaine during a traffic stop on I-40.
The arrests occurred on Tuesday, when the Criminal Interdiction Team of Central Oklahoma (CITCO), a joint task force between the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma City Police Department, pulled over a rental car driven by Delgado.
According to Sheriff Tommie Johnson, Delgado consented to a search of the vehicle, leading deputies to discover suitcases containing cocaine. The sheriff noted that much of the cocaine sold on the streets is often cut with fentanyl, a highly potent drug that can be fatal in even small amounts.
“This seizure potentially saved countless lives,” Sheriff Johnson stated. “There’s no telling how many lives our deputies saved by getting this poison off the streets.”
The investigation into this large drug seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of CITCO to combat drug trafficking in the region, ensuring that dangerous substances do not make their way into local communities.
