Travis Allen Laib Arrested in Canby Storage Unit Burglary

CANBY, Ore. — A burglary suspect was arrested early Wednesday morning thanks to the sharp eyes of a Canby police officer and the nose of his K9 partner.

Officer Scott Farmer and K9 Deoruk were patrolling near the Hwy 99 Mini-storage at 1239 SE 1st Ave when they spotted a suspicious 2009 Hyundai in a nearby parking lot. The vehicle, previously seen the night before in a different spot, contained what appeared to be burglary tools, police said.

During their investigation, K9 Deoruk discovered a section of the mini-storage fence that had been cut. While searching the area, Deoruk alerted Officer Farmer to a nearby location where the suspect was hiding. The man surrendered without incident and was found in possession of stolen items from a storage unit.

The suspect, identified as Travis Allen Laib of Spanaway, Washington, was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including three counts of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree criminal trespass.

Police noted that Laib is currently an active duty soldier on leave.
