Tokyo Photographer Arrested for Allegedly Selling Drugs to Ex-Olympus CEO

Tokyo police have arrested 44-year-old photographer Takaaki Kaneko for allegedly selling illegal drugs to Stefan Kaufmann, the former CEO of Olympus Corp., authorities announced Friday. Kaneko is accused of selling cocaine and MDMA to Kaufmann on multiple occasions from September 2022 to February 2023.

Kaufmann, a German national appointed as CEO of Olympus in 2023, resigned from his position last month after allegations surfaced regarding his involvement in drug purchases. While police conducted a search of Kaufmann’s Tokyo residence in June, no illegal substances were discovered, according to investigative sources.
