A Baxter County man, Timothy Vernon Franklin, 38, has been arrested after allegedly failing to pay for merchandise during a four-minute shoplifting spree at a Lowe’s store in Mountain Home. Franklin now faces a theft charge for the incident.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Mountain Home Police Department received a report of a shoplifting incident at Lowe’s. The store’s senior asset protection manager presented evidence to police, showing Franklin entering the store through the lumber entrance, grabbing a shopping cart, and heading to the tool department where he stole several large tool sets.
Franklin then walked past the cashier and exited the building without paying for the items. Surveillance footage captured him loading the stolen tools into a silver quad-cab pickup truck before leaving the premises. The entire incident lasted only about three to four minutes.
Using facial recognition technology, the store manager was able to extract an image of Franklin and provide it to investigators. A comparison with his driver’s license photo confirmed that the man in the footage was indeed Franklin, based on his facial features, height, and weight.
Franklin has been arrested and is currently being held at the Baxter County Detention Center on one felony count of theft of property. He is also being held for other agencies. His bond has been set at $10,420.
