Tijazala McGrone Arrested for Stealing Over $50,000 in Sunglasses

A Kansas City woman has been arrested after she and her accomplices allegedly stole over $50,000 in sunglasses from multiple Kansas City-area stores over the summer. Tijazala McGrone, 24, was arrested on September 10 and charged with multiple counts of stealing in connection to a series of thefts at Sunglass Hut locations.

According to records filed in Platte County, Missouri, McGrone is accused of being one of four women involved in stealing sunglasses from stores between May and July 2024. The thefts began on June 4, when McGrone and another woman entered the Sunglass Hut at Zona Rosa in Kansas City and stole a dozen pairs of sunglasses worth $4,824. Surveillance footage captured the women in the act, and they left the store without paying.

On June 13, McGrone returned to the store with a new accomplice and stole another 17 pairs of sunglasses valued at $5,366. Investigators noted that each theft was captured on camera. The stolen items continued to mount over the next two months, with McGrone and her partners committing thefts in both Platte and Jackson counties.

During the fourth theft on July 31, McGrone appeared on a live stream where she admitted she was preparing to steal. Investigators also found that McGrone was responsible for a total of eight thefts at Sunglass Hut and Lens Crafters locations between May and July, with a total value of $50,915.

McGrone was arrested at her home on September 10 after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was booked into the Platte County Detention Center on four counts of stealing. During an interview with detectives, McGrone reportedly admitted to being involved in each of the thefts.

As of September 15, McGrone remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. She had an arraignment on September 11, and her next hearing is scheduled for September 17 before Judge Abe Shafer. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to pursue the other suspects involved in the thefts.
