Margao police have arrested three suspects from West Bengal involved in the recent gold heist at a workshop in Comba, Margao. The accused—Suprokash Mandal, Sanjoy Mondal, and Tapas Jana—were responsible for stealing gold ornaments valued at Rs 72 lakh from the workshop of complainant Pritesh Lotlikar.
The trio, who were hired to create gold ornaments from melted gold, dishonestly took around 959 grams of gold, which was later determined to be worth Rs 72 lakh. The stolen gold was recovered from the suspects after their arrest, with a portion of the stolen goods valued at Rs 14,85,000 (weighing approximately 205.281 kilos) being successfully retrieved.
The Margao police launched an extensive investigation and tracked down the accused in West Bengal. Using technical surveillance and electronic monitoring, police teams were able to locate the suspects in the Phultala locality of Golbhati, North 24 Parganas, near Habra Police Station in Kolkata.
According to SP South Sunita Sawant, all three suspects were apprehended following a swift operation. The police have assured that the investigation is ongoing to recover any remaining stolen items and gather additional details about the crime.
The recovery of the stolen gold has provided some relief to the complainant, though the full extent of the theft remains under investigation. Authorities are also looking into the involvement of potential accomplices in the heist.
