In two separate incidents, three individuals were charged with acts of cruelty against stray dogs and pet pigeons in Punjab.
In the first case, Varinder Singh of Ranian village’s Ranjit Avenue was accused of killing two puppies and injuring another. The crime came to light after a disturbing video surfaced, showing Singh brutally thrashing the puppies. Two of the puppies died, and the third suffered severe injuries. The video was shared with animal welfare activists, who promptly filed a complaint with the police. Mani Singh, president of the Help for Animals organization, confirmed that the video had been sent to him via WhatsApp by an animal lover. Following the complaint, Dehlon police registered a case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. As of now, the accused has not been arrested, according to ASI Ranjit Singh, the investigating officer.
In the second case, Jodhan police charged Amarjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh for the killing of six pet pigeons at Saholi village. The two men had reportedly visited a friend’s house under the guise of checking the speed of his pigeons but instead twisted their necks, killing them. The incident came to light when the complainant reported the attack to the police.
Both incidents are under investigation, with animal welfare activists and local authorities working together to address these cases of cruelty to animals.
