In less than a week after a theft of Rs 21 lakh was reported from Radha Hospital in Kashimira, the crime detection unit has arrested three individuals involved in the crime.
The theft occurred at the hospital located in the Vinay Nagar area of Kashimira on September 21, when Rs 21 lakh in cash, stored in a drawer and cupboard, went missing. Hospital authorities reviewed the CCTV footage and identified a burqa-clad individual committing the theft.
An offence under sections of BNS-2023 was registered at the Kashigaon police station against an unknown culprit.
The crime detection unit, led by senior police inspector Rahul Kumar Patil, investigated the scene and suspected an inside job, pointing to someone familiar with the hospital’s routine.
The investigation led to the arrest of ex-employee Manish Kumar Mishra, who, during questioning, revealed that the theft was committed by the doctor’s driver, Sonu Allauddin Shaikh (28), who wore a burqa to avoid detection.
With the help of electronic surveillance, the police apprehended Shaikh in a village in Katihar district, Bihar. An accomplice, Virendra Bharat Puri (34), was also arrested for his role in the conspiracy.
The police successfully recovered Rs 18 lakh of the stolen money from the suspects. The trio was produced before the district sessions court, Thane, and remanded in custody until September 29. The investigation is ongoing.
