Thomas Partey Charged With Multiple Rape Offences in UK

LONDON, UK — Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a report from Sky News on Friday, July 4.

The 32-year-old is alleged to have committed the offences against two women between 2021 and 2022. Two charges relate to one woman and three to another. The charges come after a three-year investigation by Scotland Yard that began in February 2022.

Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025. He denies all allegations and intends to fight the charges in court.

The former midfielder’s Arsenal contract expired on June 30, just days before the charges were announced, leaving him currently without a club. Despite his legal situation, Partey had continued to play for Arsenal during the investigation, featuring in over 50 matches while on bail.

In a statement, his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose said:

“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized that police efforts remain focused on supporting the alleged victims:

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We encourage anyone else affected by this case to contact our team.”

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated the charges were filed after a careful review of a comprehensive file of evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police.

Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atlético Madrid and played 130 Premier League matches, scoring four goals last season. He helped Arsenal reach the Champions League semi-finals last season and played in their 2023 Community Shield win against Manchester City.

Known for his powerful midfield presence, Partey has battled recurrent injuries throughout his career in North London. With interest reportedly coming from Juventus, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce, he is currently seeking his next move.

Speaking recently about his future, Partey said his family’s happiness would play a decisive role in choosing his next club:

“When you are young, you just play anywhere. Now, with a family, you want them to be happy too.”

Legal proceedings are now underway, and no further comments will be made by Partey or his legal team at this stage.
