Third Man Charged in Miami Tractor-Trailer Theft Ring

A third man has been charged in connection with the theft of a tractor-trailer containing around $100,000 worth of poultry products in Miami last year. The arrest follows a separate tractor-trailer theft in Davie, authorities reported.

Yoel Torres-Diaz, 42, and Carlos Acosta-Viera, 37, were taken into custody on Wednesday, facing grand theft charges after their involvement in stealing a tractor-trailer worth $130,000 in Davie.

According to arrest reports, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper located the stolen tractor-trailer in Miami and witnessed Acosta-Viera driving a black Hummer to the scene. Torres-Diaz, who was a passenger, exited the Hummer and began driving the stolen tractor-trailer. The two men were arrested shortly after.

In addition to the recent theft, Torres-Diaz faces charges for his role in the September 15, 2024 theft of another tractor-trailer loaded with chicken. This theft occurred near the driver’s home in the area of Old State Road 9 and Northwest 155th Lane in Miami. The stolen trailer, valued at $80,000, contained assorted frozen poultry worth $100,000.

The theft was reported when the driver’s sister alerted him that the truck was missing. Two other men, Jorge Lyen Blanco-Diaz and Raul Bello, were arrested last year for their involvement in the theft.

Torres-Diaz and Blanco-Diaz have been identified as members of a sophisticated criminal group involved in organized cargo theft. Torres-Diaz is also a suspect in an August 2022 theft of a tractor-trailer loaded with lumber and another theft from September 2023 involving a semi-trailer carrying assorted meat products valued at $400,000.

Torres-Diaz, from Miami, and Acosta-Viera, from Hialeah, have been booked into jail. Information on their attorneys is not currently available.
