Plain-clothed officers swiftly apprehended a man seconds after he snatched a mobile phone in Soho, central London.
CCTV footage released by the Metropolitan Police shows a man dressed in white crossing a road before stealing a phone from the back pocket of an unsuspecting victim. Officers PC Josh Lowther and PC Stephen Rogers, who were on patrol nearby on July 5, quickly reacted and arrested the suspect.
Kaidi Nasser, 25, pleaded guilty to the phone theft at Westminster Magistrates on July 8 and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. On the same day, he received an additional sentence for a January shop theft, resulting in a total prison term of 30 weeks.
Detective Superintendent Saj Hussain, who leads the Met’s phone robbery unit, praised the officers for their swift actions. He emphasized that robbery and theft are often invasive crimes and encouraged victims to report incidents promptly so police can respond quickly.
The Metropolitan Police continue to focus on areas prone to phone thefts in efforts to make London safer.
