Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Angelina Herrera, a 40-year-old San Bernardino resident, was arrested on the evening of December 23, 2024, in Rancho Cucamonga for shoplifting at an Ulta Beauty store on Foothill Boulevard. Herrera, a suspected serial thief, had concealed items in her backpack when she was apprehended by law enforcement.
Her arrest falls under the newly implemented Prop. 36 legislation, which went into effect on December 18, 2024. This law increases penalties for repeat offenders of theft and drug-related crimes, rolling back some leniencies previously granted by Prop. 47. Due to her multiple prior theft convictions, Herrera now faces harsher charges under Prop. 36, including shoplifting and burglary charges.
Herrera, who also has pending cases related to burglary and felony vandalism, was booked into jail after the arrest. Law enforcement officials have pointed to her case as a clear example of how Prop. 36 is designed to hold repeat offenders accountable with stricter sentences.
As part of California’s efforts to combat organized retail crime, Attorney General Rob Bonta has emphasized the importance of the law in curbing serial thefts. The state has already begun to implement the new measures, ensuring that individuals like Herrera face more serious penalties for their criminal activities.
