The Thane Police have successfully apprehended multiple suspects involved in various thefts in the city, recovering stolen goods worth Rs17.19 lakh.
According to police officials, Selvaraj Mani Nadar (55), Naresh Kumar Munnilal Varma (27), and Aniket Samsher Yadav (19) were arrested after a two-team investigation based on technical and intelligence inputs. The police recovered the stolen items, including 101 smartphones, 26 branded smartwatches, 10 earbuds, and other electronic goods from the suspects.
The investigation revealed that Nadar had a criminal record, with 12 cases registered against him across nine police stations. Yadav had one case registered against him at the Sanpada station.
In another case, a thief targeted the Radhakrishna Temple in Khadegolawali, Kalyan, stealing a ‘hundi’ containing Rs6,000 on the night of July 13-14. The accused, who is currently in Taloja Jail, was identified using CCTV footage. Police will soon take him into custody for further interrogation.
Additionally, the Thane Crime Branch arrested Raju Mohammad Jenal Sheikh, alias Bangali, from Tripura, for committing a series of thefts. Sheikh, who would fly into Mumbai and take refuge in a drain before committing crimes, was arrested on July 25 while attempting to sell stolen jewelry in Wagle Estate. Stolen items worth Rs1.13 lakh were recovered from him. Sheikh reportedly committed seven thefts in Thane and has pending cases in Gujarat and other parts of Maharashtra.
The investigation into these cases continues as the police work to bring further perpetrators to justice.
