The DCP squad of the Kalyan region of Thane police recovered MD contraband worth over Rs1 lakh from a driver in Dombivli. The arrested individual, Vinay Iyer (26), a resident of Rajaji Path, Dombivli, is suspected of selling MD drugs to local youth. He has been arrested under the NDPS Act.
The operation was part of a larger crackdown led by Kalyan Zone DCP Atul Zende, initiated after the horrific rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Kalyan. The police have intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and usage in the city. In addition, the crackdown also targeted individuals involved in public disturbances, smoking in public spaces, and operating shops late at night, leading to action against 722 people.
Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of Vinay Iyer’s involvement in the local drug network.
