Thambi Navas Held in Chowara Title Deed Bribery Case

In a crackdown on corruption, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested two men in Chowara village for accepting a bribe in connection with a land title deed.

The arrested individuals are Thambi, a retired village assistant, and Navas, a serving village field assistant. They allegedly demanded a Rs10,000 bribe from a Kakkanad native to process a title deed for 1.24 acres of land.

According to officials, the duo inspected the complainant’s property in April and demanded the bribe shortly after. When the title application was delayed, the complainant contacted them again—unaware that Thambi had already retired—and was met with the same demand.

The complainant then reported the matter to the Ernakulam vigilance DSP. Acting on the tip-off, the VACB team caught Thambi red-handed while accepting the bribe near the Chowara village office. Navas, who was nearby, was also taken into custody.

Both were presented in court and remanded in judicial custody. The VACB confirmed that further investigations are ongoing.
