Thai police arrested two suspects, Wisit and Taweesak, after seizing over 5 million methamphetamine tablets intended for distribution in Bangkok’s central regions. The arrest is part of a larger operation to crack down on drug trafficking across Thailand, led by the Royal Thai Army (RTA).
On November 9, police intercepted the suspects on Highway 2003 in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, where they were in the process of transferring the drugs. A search of their white Toyota box truck revealed 20 bags containing a total of 5,034,000 meth tablets. The suspects were detained for questioning and admitted their plan to distribute the drugs throughout central Thailand.
The operation was part of a broader anti-drug initiative that involved the RTA and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau. The intelligence-gathering units acted swiftly on government directives to dismantle drug networks moving narcotics to the country’s inner regions.
The suspects were also found in possession of three mobile phones, which will be further investigated as part of the ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking ring.
