Terrence Truitt Arrested After DNA Links Him to Peachtree City Attack

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – A 19-year-old man, Terrence Truitt, has been arrested after DNA evidence linked him to an attempted robbery that occurred on the Peachtree City multi-use path system last summer. Truitt was arrested after DNA samples taken from a mask left at the crime scene and his cheek led authorities to identify him as the attacker.

The attack took place in June 2023 when a woman walking on the Peachtree City path system was approached by a man who tried to rob her. During the altercation, the victim managed to unmask her assailant, providing crucial evidence that would help authorities track him down. Truitt, who had been an early suspect, matched the victim’s description, and surveillance footage from a nearby apartment complex confirmed his involvement.

Police initially interviewed Truitt but he declined to voluntarily provide a DNA sample. A search warrant was later executed, and DNA samples were taken from him. The results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) took six months to process, but once they confirmed the match, warrants for Truitt’s arrest were issued.

The suspect was arrested at his workplace, the Newnan Yamaha plant, where he was employed. Truitt now faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the incident.

Peachtree City Police Lt. Chris Hyatt emphasized that security on the city’s extensive multi-use path system remains a top priority for law enforcement. Authorities are also continuing to monitor the area to prevent future incidents.

This case highlights the critical role of DNA evidence and the perseverance of law enforcement in solving crimes, even when delays occur.
