Teenagers Arrested for Stealing Hyundai, Attempting Break-Ins

Two teenagers were arrested early Friday after allegedly stealing a 2016 Hyundai Accent in Colorado Springs. Police located the stolen vehicle Thursday morning in the 2500 block of East Cache La Poudre Street, just east of downtown. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Carmine Frey, and the passenger was 18-year-old Kirk Koltin.

Surveillance footage revealed Frey and Koltin attempting to break into three different vehicles, two of which were located at the Montecito Apartment complex, and one at Oakdale Springs Apartments, both near East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard.

Frey, who had been arrested for motor vehicle theft earlier in March, was out on bond at the time of this incident. Koltin, who has felony warrants for assault and menacing, was also arrested. The two teens were apprehended in a neighborhood near South Roosevelt Street and South Brentwood Drive, east of downtown.

Both Frey and Koltin are now facing multiple motor vehicle theft charges. As of Friday afternoon, Frey is being held at the El Paso County Jail on a $3,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 3 at 1:30 p.m. Koltin’s custody status and court proceedings are currently unknown.
