A primary school teacher, Ole Steinsland, has been sentenced to three years in prison after police discovered hundreds of indecent images of children on his phone. The 46-year-old Norwegian was arrested at Manchester Piccadilly railway station on July 11 while with a 16-year-old girl from Derbyshire who had been reported missing.

Following his arrest, officers contacted Norwegian police, who confirmed he had also been reported missing. Steinsland pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to child exploitation on September 27.

He has been informed that he will face deportation upon completing his sentence. Detective Constable Izabel Fowkes, who led the investigation, characterized Steinsland as “clearly a very dangerous man.” She noted that the examination of his phone revealed he was in contact with several children online, including some from Chile, heightening concerns about his potential for exploitation. The fact that Steinsland held a position of trust as a primary school teacher further underscores the gravity of his offenses.
