Teacher Arrested for Identity Fraud in Laurens County

A teacher from Laurens County, South Carolina, was arrested on Thursday on an identity fraud charge. Viola Church, now known as Bryia Scott, allegedly impersonated another individual to secure employment at Waterloo Elementary School.

According to Laurens County School District 55, Scott will no longer serve as a teacher. The district confirmed that Scott was employed through Aya Healthcare, a company contracted by the school district.

Laurens County deputies charged Scott with identity fraud, accusing her of unlawfully using someone else’s identity to obtain her job. School officials have informed relevant stakeholders about the situation, including notifying the parents and guardians of affected students.

The investigation is ongoing, and the school district is cooperating with authorities.
