MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVC) — The wife of a man charged with murder and who allegedly lied about a bear attack in Monroe County now faces charges herself. Taylor Ann Fiber, 30, has been charged with accessory and false reporting after authorities say she helped her husband, Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, evade capture.
According to an affidavit, Fiber purchased a ticket for Hamlett to flee Knoxville and travel to South Carolina. Authorities caught up with Hamlett at a Columbia hospital after a staff member recognized him from news reports.
Investigators say Fiber misled them by claiming her husband was the brother of the murder victim, initially identified as Brandon Kristopher Andrade. Further investigation revealed that Hamlett had used the Andrade name when calling dispatchers after the murder and while fleeing the scene.
Fiber also allegedly bought supplies for Hamlett while he was in hiding and warned him when authorities were closing in.
Fiber has been extradited to Monroe County, Tennessee, where she is currently held. Meanwhile, Hamlett is being extradited back to Tennessee to face charges.
