Tara Enoka, a 35-year-old woman, is facing allegations of faking a cancer diagnosis in order to deceive donors on GoFundMe and raise over $37,000. Between March and September 2021, Enoka is accused of creating a fraudulent fundraising campaign, claiming the money would be used for her medical treatment. Police claim she transferred more than $36,000 from the funds into her personal bank account, despite never being diagnosed with the condition she claimed to have.
Enoka reportedly posted a video on a separate platform, further promoting her fundraising efforts. In the video, she can be seen pleading for help, stating, “I’ve never been the type to ask anybody for help,” while using the hashtag #StandWithTara. The video remains on YouTube, continuing to mislead viewers.
According to WA Police, more than 500 people from 16 countries donated to the campaign, believing they were supporting Enoka’s medical treatment. Authorities are now investigating the case as part of a broader effort to protect donors from fraudulent fundraising scams.
If the allegations are proven true, Enoka’s actions could result in significant legal consequences, as the case highlights the vulnerability of online donors and the potential for exploitation in crowdfunding campaigns.
