A Crime Branch (CB) team investigating an online fraud case has apprehended two Taiwanese men in connection with a scam that led to a doctor couple from Cherthala, Alappuzha, losing a whopping Rs7.65 crore last year.
The suspects, Wang Chun-Wei, 26, also known as Sumoka, and Shen Wei-Haw, 35, alias Krish, both hailing from Taoyuan, Taiwan, were taken into custody after the investigation linked them to the fraud that exploited the couple.
The fraud was carried out via a sophisticated online scheme where the doctor couple was lured into investing large sums of money under the false pretext of lucrative returns. Once the couple realized they could not withdraw their invested funds, they approached the authorities and lodged a complaint.
Following their inquiry, the Crime Branch managed to trace the scam back to these Taiwanese nationals. The police now continue to probe their international connections and attempt to uncover additional members of the fraudulent syndicate.
