Suspicious Death in Madera County After Woman Allegedly Sets Husband on Fire

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. – Authorities are investigating a suspicious death in Madera County after a 911 call reported a woman setting her husband on fire early Thursday morning.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, located on Children’s Boulevard between Lanes Bridge and Highway 41, around 3:00 a.m. Deputies arrived to find a man dead under unclear circumstances. The Sheriff’s Office has not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased or whether the fire directly caused the man’s death.

56-year-old Jessie Equilla Brooks of Fresno was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on homicide charges. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of death and the details surrounding the incident.
