Surrey Mountie Stabbed During Arrest, Five Charged in Richmond

On Nov. 5, 2024, a Surrey RCMP officer was stabbed while attempting to arrest a suspect in connection with a vehicle theft. The incident occurred near a U-Haul storage facility located at 186 Street and 96 Avenue in Surrey. The officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the officer has since been released and is recovering.

The suspect, who allegedly stole a vehicle, was apprehended following the altercation. The RCMP have not yet disclosed his identity, and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, in Richmond, RCMP have concluded a three-year investigation into illegal drug trafficking and gambling activities, resulting in multiple criminal charges against five individuals. The accused include:

  • Jack Xiao, charged with importing and exporting a controlled substance and operating a gaming or betting house.
  • Kuo Wong, Michael Yee, Thi Nguyen, and Jin Zhang, all charged with operating a gaming or betting house.

The charges stem from a lengthy investigation into a complex network involving drug distribution and illegal gambling operations.

These cases highlight the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle organized crime in British Columbia. Further updates are expected as the legal process unfolds.
