In the midst of the ongoing recession in the diamond industry, a major diamond theft worth Rs11 lakh took place during the Holi-Dhuleti holidays in Surat’s Kapodra area. The police launched a detailed investigation and successfully apprehended the culprits from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan through a well-executed undercover operation.
The prime accused, Akash Shakya, a diamond polisher from Madhya Pradesh, worked at a diamond factory in Kapodra’s Snehamudra Society Building No. 63. Shakya meticulously planned the robbery by:
Using the factory owner’s father’s mobile flashlight to identify the safe’s serial number.
Stealing the key from the factory owner’s father.
Opening the safe and escaping with diamonds worth Rs11 lakh.
The theft went unnoticed until the factory owner discovered the missing diamonds and promptly reported it to the police.
Recognizing the gravity of the crime, Kapodra police formed multiple teams to investigate. They employed advanced tracking methods, which included:
Analyzing factory workforce data and discovering that Akash Shakya had been missing since the day before the incident.
Tracking his mobile number and sharing the details with Bihar police, who confirmed his location.
Conducting reconnaissance operations that led to Akash Shakya’s arrest in Madhya Pradesh.
During interrogation, Shakya revealed the involvement of his accomplice, Kailash from Rajasthan, who was in possession of half of the stolen diamonds. Police quickly moved to Rajasthan and successfully arrested Kailash, recovering the stolen diamonds.
While a portion of the diamonds has been seized, some were reportedly sold by the accused. The police are continuing their efforts to retrieve the remaining diamonds.
According to a Kapodra Police Inspector, “The accused were traced using a combination of intelligence, mobile tracking, and undercover operations. We are in the process of recovering the remaining stolen diamonds.”
