A high-profile drug trafficker, Sunil Dudi, who had a Rs35,000 bounty on his arrest, has been nabbed by Rajasthan Police’s special Cyclone team, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar, Dudi was a notorious criminal wanted in several cases across at least six districts of Rajasthan, including charges under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, murder, attempt to murder, and assault on police personnel.
Dudi was facing charges in police stations such as Pipad (Jodhpur Rural), Basni (Jodhpur City), Jawaja (Beawar), and Anandpur Kalu, among others.
Despite suffering a stroke in December 2024 that left him partially paralyzed, Dudi continued to operate under a false identity, using forged documents to avoid arrest. His criminal activities reportedly continued undeterred, with police alleging that he eliminated anyone who posed a threat to his drug network. He is also believed to be involved in the murder of two police personnel.
Police tracked Dudi with the help of hospital and toll booth records. Investigators discovered he had used the alias “Anil Jani” to visit a private hospital in Ahmedabad and had changed his appointment schedule to evade detection. A vehicle linked to his associate helped confirm his location.
The Cyclone team, after monitoring his visits to a temple in Nagaur and the Ahmedabad hospital, laid a trap and arrested him upon his return to Jodhpur. Initially, he falsely identified himself as Anil Jani, but later confessed under interrogation.
Dudi, once a failed garment trader, reportedly turned to drug trafficking for money and power. His arrest is being hailed as a major breakthrough in Rajasthan’s ongoing fight against organized drug crime.
