Success Egabor Arrested in South Africa for Human Trafficking

Success Egabor, a 41-year-old Nigerian woman, has been arrested in South Africa for her alleged involvement in a human trafficking syndicate. Her arrest follows initial detainment by the Department of Home Affairs on May 23, 2024, for being in the country illegally.

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, confirmed the arrest in a statement, explaining that Egabor was handed over to the Hawks after further investigations linked her to human trafficking activities.

The arrest came after the Department of Home Affairs in Strand reported Egabor’s illegal presence in the country, and upon sharing the information with the Hawks, it was confirmed that she was a suspect in the trafficking operation.

Egabor appeared in the George Magistrates’ Court on May 24, where the case was postponed to June 10, 2024. She will face charges alongside two co-accused women, Nontobeko Mathunjwa, 35, and Precious Abudu, 34, who had been arrested earlier by the Hawks and denied bail.

In a separate operation on May 25, the Hawks made another arrest after investigating a known brothel in George. The raid followed an assault complaint and led to the rescue of a victim who was being held against her will. The victim was provided medical care at George Hospital and moved to a safe location.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Hawks continue to focus on dismantling human trafficking syndicates operating in the region.
