Steven Hunter Found Guilty of Murder in Topeka Shooting

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A Shawnee County jury found Steven Hunter, 47, of Topeka, guilty of murder on Thursday, Dec. 5, following a trial for the fatal shooting of Jennifer Eisele.

According to the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office, Hunter was convicted on multiple charges:

Count 1: Murder in the Second Degree – Intentional
Count 2: Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Count 3: Interference with Law Enforcement – Official Duty
The incident occurred on Dec. 22, 2023, when Topeka Police responded to a reported shooting on SW 7th Street. Officers discovered Jennifer Eisele, 42, of Topeka, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation later identified Steven Hunter as the suspect. Authorities stated that Hunter and Eisele knew each other.

Hunter remains in custody, with his sentencing scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23, 2025.
