PLATTSBURG, Mo. – A man accused of stealing fireworks days before the Fourth of July won’t be celebrating with them. Steven J. N. Carroll, 25, has been charged with burglary, stealing, and property damage after allegedly taking hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks from Hartzell and Sons Construction on June 27.
Plattsburg police responded to a burglary call around 6:25 p.m. The business owner reported that a large box and several smaller boxes of fireworks were missing. Security footage showed a man, later identified as Carroll, moving the camera out of view before breaking in. Investigators also found muddy footprints matching the conditions that day, leading them to the suspected entry point.
Footage from a nearby business showed a gray Dodge pickup entering and leaving the property. Officers later located the vehicle at Apple Plaza Apartments, a location Carroll frequents. He was arrested on-site.
Carroll, who has a prior criminal history including 22 misdemeanor and 7 felony arrests, was taken to the Clinton County Detention Center. As of July 3, he remains jailed without bond. A court date has not yet been scheduled.
