Stephen Stoltzfus Charged for Brutal Dog Amputation in PA

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man is facing serious animal cruelty charges after allegedly amputating a dog’s injured leg with scissors at home, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Stephen Stoltzfus, 45, reportedly cut off the dog’s leg after it was injured by a hay machine blade instead of seeking veterinary care. Authorities say the dog, named Kimber, endured significant pain for at least three days following the at-home amputation.

Nicole Wilson of the Pennsylvania SPCA called the case unusual in its cruelty. A veterinarian became involved after Stoltzfus reportedly called about pain medication, but made no mention of seeking medical treatment for the animal.

Wilson described the dog’s condition at rescue: “She was soaked in her own blood, which was caked to her hair.” Officers immediately transported Kimber to an emergency veterinary facility.

Despite her ordeal, Kimber remains a loving dog. “She licks the hands of the nurses and the vet,” Wilson said. “She is just so appreciative of every soft, loving touch she receives.”

Stoltzfus was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. While no longer in custody, his bail terms require him to surrender 14 other dogs found at his residence.
