Srinagar Police has successfully dismantled a drug trafficking network with the arrest of two drug peddlers, Asif Ahmad Sheikh and Arif Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Babapora Barthana. The arrests were made on October 22, 2024, after a naka checking at Barthana Bund led to the interception of an Alto vehicle bearing registration number JK01J 7081, in which the accused were traveling.
During the search, substantial quantities of narcotic substances were recovered from their possession. The police registered FIR No. 136/2024 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) at PS Parimpora. Both men have been arrested, and the vehicle used for the crime has been seized.
Arif Ahmad Sheikh, one of the accused, has a prior criminal record and was previously involved in another NDPS Act case under PS Parimpora. Further investigation revealed that Asif Ahmad Sheikh had illegally acquired substantial wealth through the drug trade. He had built a double-storey house in Babapora Barthana, funded by the proceeds of the narcotics business. The house has now been seized under Section 68 of the NDPS Act, with further legal actions being pursued.
The Srinagar Police has appealed to the public to stay vigilant and report any drug-related activities or criminal behavior they may encounter. They encourage people to contact the nearest police station or dial 112 to provide information. The police emphasize the importance of a collective effort to combat the drug menace and protect the community from the devastating impact of drug trafficking.
Srinagar’s law enforcement remains committed to strict action against those involved in drug-related crimes, reinforcing their ongoing crackdown on narcotics in the region.
