Mobile Police Arrest Driver After Fatal Crash on Airport Boulevard

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) — Mobile police have made an arrest following a fatal traffic accident early Sunday morning, where a woman was found dead at the scene.

Spencer Strickland, 37, has been arrested in connection with the crash and charged with manslaughter, according to the Mobile County Metro Jail log.

The incident occurred around 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and McGregor Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Katherine Smith, 38, dead in her SUV.

Investigators determined that Smith was crossing Airport Boulevard when a pickup truck, driven by Strickland, ran a red light and struck her vehicle. Strickland was arrested at the scene and taken into custody at Metro Jail.
