Michael Babalola, 24, was arrested on May 19 last year following a police raid at the home of his brother, Olusegun Babalola, in Peterborough. The raid was part of a larger operation by Cambridgeshire Constabulary targeting drug trafficking and exploitation.
During the raid, officers discovered over £7,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine hidden in a tissue box, alongside small weighing scales, mobile phones, and designer clothing. Olusegun was arrested and charged, while Michael was initially released under investigation. Though there was no direct evidence linking him to the drugs found in the flat, further investigation through mobile phone analysis revealed Michael’s involvement in the bulk supply of cannabis and possession of criminal funds.
Police uncovered selfies of Michael, smiling with wads of cash and showing off multiple Rolex watches, which were used as evidence of his criminal activities.
Michael Babalola, of South Road in Lewisham, was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months at Peterborough Crown Court on December 13, after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and possession of criminal property. Prosecutors are now seeking to reclaim the assets through the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
Detective Constable Olly Campbell of Cambridgeshire Constabulary said, “We are actively targeting those who think it is acceptable to commit crime and supply drugs in Cambridgeshire, including those who travel from other areas of the country. As a result of our investigation into his brother – who is now serving an eight-year prison sentence – we uncovered Michael’s criminality.”
