NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) – Jimmy Desir, a South Florida tax preparer, appeared in federal court on Wednesday to face charges related to filing false income tax returns. Desir, 46, was arrested after an indictment accused him of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme to defraud the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Desir is the owner of A1 Plus Financial Services, Inc., a tax preparation business based in North Miami Beach. According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Desir was charged with 22 counts of assisting in the preparation of false and fraudulent tax returns.
The indictment alleges that over several years, Desir included false entries on his customers’ tax returns, which included false fuel tax credits, false education credits, and fabricated Schedules C with made-up business losses. These falsifications were allegedly done to increase his clients’ tax refunds, allowing Desir to charge higher tax preparation fees.
As a result of this scheme, the IRS is said to have suffered an estimated loss of over $2 million. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aimee Jimenez, while the IRS Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation.
Desir now faces serious federal charges, and authorities are continuing to investigate his actions.
