Soreng Police Arrest Two for Drug Trafficking, Seize 125 Capsules

In a major operation to combat drug trafficking, Soreng District Police successfully intercepted an Omni van and apprehended two individuals suspected of possessing illegal substances. The suspects, identified as Puspa Lall Chettri (39) from Salangdang, Sombaria, and Dewash Rai (37) from Soreng, were detained on the morning of October 30, 2024, around 10:30 a.m. in Sombaria Bazaar.

The two men were found in possession of 125 Windlas Winspasmo capsules during a search conducted by the police in the presence of the Block Development Officer of Sombaria. These capsules were seized and have been taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

A case has been registered under the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act, and authorities have intensified their efforts to crack down on drug-related crimes in the region. The suspects had been under surveillance by the Soreng District Police for some time, and their arrest is a significant blow to the illicit drug trade in the area.

The Soreng District Police have reiterated their commitment to making Soreng a drug-free district. In their appeal to the community, they emphasized the importance of collective action in fighting drug abuse, calling for efforts to make Soreng a ‘Nasha Mukta District’ for the well-being of future generations.

This operation is a key part of Soreng’s broader initiative to curb drug-related activities and ensure a safer, healthier environment for its residents.
