Somporn Arrested at Hospital Over Fraud and Computer Crimes

A 39-year-old woman, Somporn (surname withheld), was arrested by Thai police on December 2 while visiting her husband, who is recovering in a hospital after being shot during a police standoff. Somporn had two outstanding arrest warrants for fraud and computer crimes.

Somporn’s arrest occurred at Bang Lamung Hospital, where she was visiting her husband, Prateep (surname withheld), who was shot during a raid on November 29. The raid was part of an operation to arrest a drug dealer, but during the confrontation, Prateep threatened police officers with a knife, leading to his injuries. While her husband was rushed to the hospital, Somporn fled the scene, raising suspicions.

Investigations revealed that she was wanted for fraudulent activities, including impersonation and making false entries into computer systems. Police had been tracking her movements and anticipated her visit to the hospital. When she arrived at her husband’s bedside, officers moved in to arrest her. Somporn showed signs of stress during her arrest.

She is currently in custody and will face legal proceedings at Phaya Thai Police Station in Bangkok.
