Six Arrested, Stolen Handgun Recovered in Lyon County Investigation

LYON COUNTY, Nev. (CBS12) — A two-day investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit has led to the recovery of a stolen handgun and the arrest of six individuals.

The investigation began on January 13 after an elderly Lyon County resident reported their handgun stolen. Detectives quickly tracked down the primary suspect in the theft the following day, January 14. A search warrant was executed at a residence in Stagecoach, where the stolen handgun was recovered, along with nine other firearms.

Authorities also discovered two individuals hiding in the home who were wanted on outstanding felony warrants. During the search, several other prohibited items were seized.

The arrests include the following individuals:

Erick Shepard, 41, of Stagecoach
Matthew Cook, 36, of Carson City
George Shepard, 43, of Stagecoach
Johnathan Wilson, 43, of Stagecoach
Sharla Smith, 41, of Silver Springs
Matthew Treanor, 26, of Stagecoach
In addition to the primary suspect in the firearm theft, the arrests were made on charges related to active warrants, possession of controlled substances, and other criminal offenses.
