The Madhapur police arrested six individuals in Delhi on Tuesday in connection with a ‘pub trap’ scam, targeting young men seeking dates who ended up facing exorbitant bills. The accused are being transported to Hyderabad for further investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the main perpetrator paid a substantial amount to rent the pub, which was later recouped by charging unsuspecting customers inflated fees. The pub owner was reportedly unaware of the scam, which was orchestrated by an individual based in Delhi who rented the venue for these events.
Sources reveal that the main accused organized events at the pub, where patrons were lured in by attractive dates. Upon arrival, these patrons faced inflated bills and were pressured into paying these excessive amounts due to social embarrassment and deceit.
Despite the arrest of six individuals, police believe there may be more involved, as many victims have yet to come forward to file formal complaints. However, numerous victims are hesitant due to privacy concerns, with their families unaware of their entanglement in the deceptive scheme.
“We understand the sensitivity and privacy concerns of the victims, but their cooperation is crucial for a thorough investigation and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” stated a senior police official. He assured that the identities of all victims would be protected and that their cases would be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
The police encourage victims to provide transaction details of their bill payments to assist in recovering the amounts paid to the pub. They are also investigating the financial trail and the logistics behind this elaborate scam.
