Siti Marlina Br Lubis Faces Arrest Over Rp2.7 Billion Fraud

JAKARTA – Inspector General Karyoto, the Metro Jaya Police Chief, has been urged to arrest Siti Marlina Br Lubis, President Director of PT Smardjaya, who is suspected of committing fraud and embezzlement involving Rp2.7 billion.

The request was made by David Salim, representing the victim, a foreign national known as LX, during a visit to the Polda Metro on Tuesday, October 15. “We ask Inspector General Karyoto to apprehend the perpetrator as this case clearly constitutes fraud,” said Salim.

Salim emphasized the need for legal clarity regarding the fraud case, which has remained unresolved for four years. “LX is seeking certainty in this matter; as a foreign national, he struggles to navigate the bureaucratic processes in Indonesia, so he asked me to advocate on his behalf,” he stated.

Ahmad Muhammad, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian State Administrators Monitoring Institute and attorney for LX, also called on Inspector General Karyoto to pay attention to the case. He pointed out that the case, registered as LP/2082/IV/YAN/2.5/2021/SPKT PMJ, has not progressed in three years with no updates from the Jakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

“We are here today to accompany witnesses who will be examined by investigators. We are waiting outside the building for updates,” Ahmad noted. “We hope the Metro Police Chief will take this fraud case seriously, as our client is a victim.”

The fraud allegations stem from PT Smardjaya’s procurement of videotrons in various locations in Jakarta, including the National Monument (Monas) area. PT Smardjaya officials approached LX with promises of lucrative returns, asking for an initial capital investment of Rp2.7 billion.

However, as time passed, the promised success fee never materialized. Eventually, LX, through his attorney, decided to report the case to Polda Metro Jaya. Ahmad explained that despite the project running with funds from LX, which were disbursed in stages, there was no return on investment, leading to the current legal actions.
