“Simphiwe Gwala Sentenced to 3 Years for Copper and Meter Thefts”

Simphiwe Gwala, a convicted thief, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of copper and water meter thefts in Parkhill and Avoca. The sentence follows his arrest on November 6, 2024, after a series of thefts in the area.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell confirmed the conviction, stating that Gwala was linked to thefts in both Duffy Crescent (Avoca) and Conyngham Avenue (Parkhill). Gwala’s arrest was the result of a thorough investigation conducted by Greenwood Park Detective Sergeant Mkhize and prosecutor Ngema, whose efforts were instrumental in securing the conviction.

Powell extended gratitude to the law enforcement officers for their dedication in handling the case. “This conviction is a testament to the diligent work of Detective Sergeant Mkhize and Prosecutor Ngema, and we appreciate their commitment in bringing this case to a successful conclusion,” Powell said.

In recent weeks, several arrests have been made for copper pipe thefts across various areas, including Durban North and Greenwood Park, highlighting ongoing efforts to tackle these crimes.
