Silvis Man Sentenced to 115 Months in Federal Prison for Gun and Ammunition Possession
A 34-year-old Silvis man has been sentenced to 115 months in federal prison after being convicted of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
According to court records, Quivadas Quadell-Lee Gaines was arrested following a search warrant executed in July 2022 at both his vehicle and residence. During the search, law enforcement officers seized more than 40 rounds of ammunition from Gaines’ home. In addition, a loaded pistol was recovered from his vehicle, alongside his driver’s license and Social Security card.
As a convicted felon, Gaines was prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition. In 2019, he was convicted of second-degree theft in Muscatine County, Iowa. After serving his prison sentence, Gaines will also face three years of supervised release. The federal sentencing system does not include parole.
The case was investigated by the Bettendorf Police Department and is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This program aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering community cooperation with law enforcement.
U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement about Gaines’ sentencing.
